Wrapping and Frapping with the Cub Pack

Last night the Cubs worked on their wrapping and frapping.  No, this is not some new hip-hop trend but rather lashings! Armed with only rope and poles, and with the knot tying skills that they have been building on all year the cubs worked on their lashing skills and primitive shelter building.  We had planned to do this outdoors so that the various structures would stick into the ground better, however mother nature had a different plan for us so we did our shelters in side. The Cubs had a great time last night and are looking forward to the...

This past weekend was our annual ScouTrees fund-raiser and community environmental project day.  Early in the morning on Saturday, 1st Miton Beavers and Cubs were out in force planing trees to help the environment and our community.  Scout Trees has been an annual Scouts Canada event since 1972, where as a group Scouts Canada has planted over 80 million trees across the country! The 1st Milton Group was the 3rd largest group in attendance this year, and we planted over 500 trees to help offset carbon emissions and make the work a greener place.             ...

1st Milton Cubs sleep over at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum

The 1st Milton Cub Scouts slept over at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum!  We had a great time learning about the planes, and the role that Canada, and the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) played during wartime.  The Cubs did many experiments to learn about the science of flight including making our own gliders and hot air balloons.  The highlight of the night was getting the chance to sleep under the planes.  This was a unique adventure that the Cubs loved and will remember for years to come.  We also had a great time linking with the other Cub Packs,...

Campfire! How a Scout celebrates Earth Hour

During Earth Hour people are encouraged to power down all their lights and electronics between 8;30pm and 9:30pm, so what better way to celebrate Earth Hour than to attend a large Scouts Campfire.  The Central Escarpment Council of Scouts Canada (CEC) along with the staff at Blue Springs Scout Reserve held a huge campfire for all who wished to attend, and attend they did.  The event even attracted those from outside our council with groups from The Greater Toronto Council, Yellow Briar and Shining Waters council coming out to enjoy an evening of silly songs and the glow of the...

Cub Scouts visit the Buddhist Temple!

The Cub Scouts went on a spiritual adventure when they visited the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple in Mississauga Ontario to have the unique opportunity to learn about Buddhism and Chinese Culture.  We learned that the temple is also the meeting place for the 6th Meadowvale Scouting group and we were delighted to get the chance to meet their Scouters and Cub Scouts. The Cubs received a tour of the temple and an introduction to Buddhism.  We learned quite a bit, and then joined the 6th Meadowvale Cub Pack for some fun games so that everyone could burn off some...

Being a Scouter (Adult Volunteer) means committing to a growth mindset and to continued education and skills development.  1st Milton Scouting strives to create an as safe as possible environment for our youth to explore and grow.  We have very active youth and from time to time accidents happen.   To ensure that our leadership team have the skills required to deal with anything that our kids can throw at us one of the most common training that a new Scouter will be sent on is First Aid Training.  Recently four 1st Milton Beaver Scouters form both Colony “A” and Colony...

As the holiday season quickly approaches we look to the welfare of those less fortunate than us and ask the question what can we do to help.  Instilling a sense of service to our community and charity in our youth is an important goal of the Scouting movement.  As such 1st Milton Group will be providing assistance to the Salvation Army with their annual food and toy drive.   On Saturday, December 3 between 9:00am and 12:00pm, 1st Milton Group will be stationed at Canadian Tire on Steeles Ave in Milton.  When you go into the store you will be...
